12stars Player of the Week: Beach Ball

Today 12stars sits down with Beach Ball who scored a crucial goal in the 1-0 Sunderland win over Liverpool.

12stars: First appareance in the Premier League, first goal. The winner against Liverpool. What did you think of immediately after the goal?

Beach Ball: All credits to Darren [Bent] for the brilliant pass. Glen Johnson gave me too much room to maneuver. I had plenty of time to chip the ball past Reina. Then I rushed towards the fans. I had a thought for my man Djibril Cissé who left the club this summer and my brother Michael Ball who’s currently unemployed. This is probably the most important goal of my career.

12stars: We were chatting before the interview and you mentioned a bet with a German cousin?

Beach Ball: Yeah Paper Ball, my cousin from Hamburg. I mean the guy was bragging off during family meetings because he qualified Werder Bremen for the UEFA Cup final last season. But all he did was getting a corner kick that led to a goal. I bet him I’d score a goal myself.

12stars: The Guardian said your goal was not valid because… [he interrupts]

Beach Ball: Don’t listen to the journalists, mate. First they take on Diego [Maradona], now they’re after me. Those vulgar headlines make me sick.

12stars: How about your future? The phone must have rung a lot since the goal…

Beach Ball: I had a few text messages from Capello and a “get well” card from Ferguson. My agent told me he had a few interesting conversations this morning. Strikers who can score are such a rarity these days. Word is I could be included in a swap for Klaas-Jan Huntelaar. Whatever happens, 12stars readers will be the first to know.
